Kodak CMOS camera announced

Eastman Kodak is planning to release a camera and several Motorola cell phones incorporating its own CMOS sensor by the end of 2007.

Kodak, which has been developing a CMOS sensor with IBM technology, will release a 5-megapixel camera with the Kodak-developed CMOS chip by summer 2007 and Motorola-Kodak camera phones will be released shortly afterwards.

Kodak’s CMOS sensor will provide sophisticated imaging technology to manage factors such as light and colour.

Kodak also plans to phase out its lower lines of digital cameras.

Motorola and Kodak announced a 10-year global mobile-imaging partnership in January 2006, and outlined plans for Kodak to supply its CMOS sensors to Motorola for use in its camera phones, and in any future devices the companies co-developed.
