After months of waiting, the much anticipated iPhone OS 3.0 is finally here. Said to have addressed some of the most awaited features such as copy, cut and paste and push notification, the OS is coming in with a bang! The iPhone OS 3.0 was released to developers last March, and now, it is freely available for iPhone users – for iPod Touch owners, you have to pony up $9.99 for the upgrade.
The 3.0 OS also includes system-wide search provided by the Spotlight tool, which is already found on desktop Macs. The tool allows the user to search for a phrase across the handset’s contacts, messaging, email, calendar and iTunes applications. Another cool feature for the new OS is the option of using the soft keyboard in landscape mode. Emails, text messages and contacts can now also be viewed in landscape mode.
A native voice recorder application has also been added to the iPhone’s operating system for the first time, and users will now be able to send multimedia (MMS) messages. Developers can now charge users within applications for enhancements to those applications, rather than forcing them to adopt payment mechanisms outside the iPhone.
Peripherals manufacturers have also been given more access to the built-in functionality of the iPhone, allowing many to put the controls for their external devices on the iPhone itself.
